Annually, Cerner Charitable Foundation organizes a Back-to-School campaign aimed at preparing students for the upcoming school year. This drive supplies children with everything they need to kick the school year off on the right foot!
The 2021-2022 school year saw many students returning to in-person learning for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began. With so many students affected worldwide, the foundation decided to expand our school supply drive overseas. Thanks to the generosity of Cerner associates all over the United States, hundreds of students in Kansas City, Malvern, Pennsylvania and Bangalore, India were provided with the supplies they need.
In Kansas City, more than 250 backpacks stuffed with school supplies were delivered to Santa Fe Millennium Elementary School, and thousands of school supplies were donated to our partner charities: CASA of Johnson & Wyandotte Counties, Great Circle and the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Kansas City.
In Malvern, Pennsylvania, more than 750 items were donated from our virtual school supply drive to students at the Collegium Charter School.
In India, Cerner associates volunteered in their community to assemble school bags for children at a local orphanage.
We are grateful to help these students kick off the school year and for the generosity of Cerner associates. The pandemic continues to present unforeseen challenges to students, causing interruptions to their education and even their nutrition. Recently in Kansas City, supply chain issues led a local school district to lose their contract with a food vendor. Cerner and Cerner Charitable Foundation stepped in to provide thousands of necessary donations to Hickman Mills School District, including 1,600 to-go containers, more than 1,000 disposable cutlery sets, pre-packaged granola bars and more. Access to nutritious meals can help students achieve success in and outside the classroom.
Initiatives like the Back-to-School campaign are just one way Cerner Charitable Foundation is working toward our mission of building healthier tomorrows and stronger communities around the world.
